Hong Kong to organize first Employee Volunteer Week

HONG KONG, March 3 (Xinhua) -- The Community Business Leadership Team, formed by a group of local business leaders, Tuesday announced that Hong Kong's first Employee Volunteer Week which will take place from May 10 to May 16.
The event, which aims to raise awareness of the benefits of employee volunteering among Hong Kong companies, will provide an opportunity for businesses to show their commitment to the local community in a time of economic recession.
Chair of team Jim Thompson said that Hong Kong's business sector had both an opportunity and a responsibility to make a contribution to the local community in a time of economic need.
"Employee volunteering can boost staff morale, increase loyalty, reduce turnover and enhance a company's position as an employer of choice. That's critical in today's environment," said Thompson.
During Employee Volunteer Week, companies commit to encouraging their employees to volunteer their time and skills to nonprofit or other community-based organizations.
According to the team, Employee Volunteer Week already has the support of 20 companies and organizations in the city.
