In the second half of last year, foreign direct investment in the province hit 1.3 billion US dollars, 45 percent more than what was recorded for the same period in 2007. FDI for all of 2008 reached 3-billion US dollars. Local authorities say they hope to do even better this year, with a target of 4 billion US dollars.

For example, the demand for concrete reached 370 million tons in 2008. Many companies are scaling downtheir global operations, all while expanding further into Sichuan.
