Festival. That's 12 percent more than the same time last year.

This year, spring festival holiday runs from January 25th to 31st. The travel peak will start on the 23rd as millions of people return home before the Lunar New Year. As the festival approaches, tickets for popular air routes from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen to Chengdu, Chongqing, Hefei and Nanchang are all being sold at a higher price.

Song Lei, Air Ticket Dealer said "The average air ticket price for last week is 733 yuan, but it reaches 800 yuan this week. Currently, the average air ticket discount is twenty percent. It is expected shrink to a ten percent discount between the 21st and 24th this month."

Because of the financial crisis, many people cancelled other holidays but still plan to travel during the spring festival. The week before spring festival is the busiest time for air travel and most tickets are sold without a discount. Insiders suggest passengers book the ticket as early as possible.

Sone Lei said "If you book an air ticket for a trip back from home to work place now, you still can buy ticket with a thirty percent discount. But if you book it late, you will have to buy it at full price."

Insiders also remind passengers that due to the heavy demand passengers should make changes early if they want to switch the flight time after buying a ticket.
