China has declared 2009-- the "year of Eco-tourism". Its slogan is "Be a green traveler and experience eco-civilization".

Over the weekend, the China National Tourism Administration and Hainan Provincial government held an opening ceremony to launch the special year in Sanya. CNTA says Eco-travel tours have become increasingly popular among domestic and international tourists.

China has declared 2009-- the "year of Eco-tourism".

The tourism administration hopes the event will promote the concept of environmentally-friendly travel, while simultaneously encouraging resource-saving and energy efficient tourism operations. CNTA also aims to transform the Chinese tourism sector into a green industry with sustainable development.
