China Eastern Airlines' flight MU2075 is set to fly out of Shanghai's Pudong airport at eight o'clock on December 15th. This flight formalizes the start of the cross strait direct flights.

Compared with previous trips, these direct flights no longer need to make a detour over Hong Kong. This will significantly shorten the commuting time for passengers. Shorter routes mean less spending for everyone. The average price for tour packages to Taiwan will be lowered by about one thousand yuan. By saving this money and time, mainland tourists can enjoy longer trips to Taiwan.

Tian Ping, General Manager of China Travel Int'l Ltd. of Shandong Province said "Previously, tourists had to spend two days on plane. That means we only had six days in Taiwan. Now the direct flight can save one day for us. So the same package allows tourists seven days on the island."

At the same time, airline companies are also offering price discounts to take advantage of the direct flight service. Major carriers will all have ample flights for travellers looking to take advantage of the trip. Air China will carry out 10 flights to Taipei each week. China Southern Airlines will have four flights every week and Shanghai Airlines will have five.
