Cross-Straits flights to increase

China Eastern Airlines says its first weekly direct cross-Straits flights from Wuhan to Taipei will start on December the 25th.

The number of direct flights between Taiwan and 21 mainland cities will rise to 106 per week.

And Shandong Airlines says it will offer two flights per week from Qingdao to Taipei on December the 26th. The number of direct flights between Taiwan and 21 mainland cities will rise to 106 per week.

Meanwhile, the Taiwan-based Straits Exchange Foundation says shipping lines between the Straits will start running soon. Analysts say the direct links will cut costs, boost investor confidence and benefit both sides during the financial turndown.
