Special Report:   HK 10 Years

Before the May Day Holidays, Hong Kong lifted the price tag by 300 yuan per person for low-price travel groups departing from the east of the mainland. This greatly affected the tourism outlook from Shanghai, with the traveling volume dramatically dropping. To cope with the situation, hotels, airlines and parks in Hong Kong quickly launched special services for Shanghai travellers soon after the Golden Week.

It only costs 999 yuan per person to travel from Shanghai to Hong Kong, and the price covers the round trip air tickets and one night accommodation in a five star hotel. It's over 30 percent lower than the prices on the normal days. By doing so, organizers hope to boost consumers' interest in travelling to Hong Kong.

The 300 yuan price increase started since mid-April, which had negatively affected the mainland tourists' sentiment in terms of visiting the Hong Kong SAR. To regain the customers from the mainland cities, especially Shanghai, favorable policies have been constantly issued by relevant agencies, among which, the Hong Kong Ocean Park aggressively promoted their packages in Shanghai.

Under the framework of 2006 Discover Hong Kong Year, over 27 million tourists visited Hong Kong in the past year, with a total consumption of over 1,140 trillion Hong Kong dollars.
