Civilians flee as army operation continues in Swat Valley

Tens of thousands of civilians are taking advantage of a lifted curfew to flee Pakistan's embattled Swat Valley. Meanwhile, the army says it is preparing for a fierce battle against the Taliban.

Fighter jets and helicopter gunships have pounded the north-west region over the past few days. Up to 500 militants have been reportedly killed.
The army is conducting a full-scale offensive after the government ordered troops to flush out militants from the Taliban stronghold.
Pakistan's military ordered people out of parts of the Swat Valley, temporarily relaxing a curfew to enable civilians to flee the conflict zone.
