Earlier this month, the ICC issued an arrest warrant for al-Bashir for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Sudan's Darfur region. Egypt has sought to mediate a settlement of the Sudanese issue, and expressed concern over the ICC's arrest warrant for al-Bashir.
Egypt was al-Bashir's second visit abroad, after Eritrea. Al-Bashir is also planning to attend an Arab summit in Qatar at the end of the month. However, Qatar has come under pressure not to host al-Bashir. Sudan's Foreign Minister says his government is assessing the situation.
