Al-Bashir was greeted at the airport in the capital Asmara by his Eritrean counterpart Isaias Afwerki. The Sudanese president was accompanied by his heads of security and intelligence.
The purpose of the visit is to discuss regional security. Eritrea is not a signatory of the ICC, and has said it does not support the indictment. Al-Bashir is also scheduled to attend the Arab League summit at the end of the month in the Gulf nation of Qatar.
