In Cyprus a photo exhibition on Tibet's past and present has opened in the capital of Nicosia giving a picture of the autonomous region's changes and social progress.

In Cyprus a photo exhibition on Tibet's past and present has opened in the capital of Nicosia.

Sponsored by Chinese and Cypriot authorities, the exhibition of more than 200 photos showcases Tibet's unique culture and social changes. The photos illustrate Tibetans' suffering during the period of serfdom, and the changes after the 1950s.

Cypriot education and culture minister, Andreas Demetriou, says the exhibition gives a vivid picture of Tibet, where customs and traditions are maintained as society progresses. The exhibition will run for a month.
