This comes as fighting continues in other areas along the volatile Afghan border.

Paramilitary troops, backed by helicopters and tanks, have moved into the outskirts of Dara Adam Khel, near a road tunnel that troops recently took control off.

The government says at least 24 militants were killed.

In South Waziristan, a tribal area where militants linked to the Taliban and al-Qaida operate one soldier died and nine others were wounded in heavy fighting.
