India's Prime Minister Manmohan Singh makes an official visit to China, It is his life and accomplishments.

Manmohan Singh was born in 1932, in a village in the Punjab province of undivided India.

His academic career took him from Punjab to the UK, where he studied Economics at Oxford and Cambridge. He wrote his Oxford doctoral thesis on India's export competitiveness an early critique of India's inward-oriented trade policy.

Singh spent five years between 1991 and 1996 as India's Finance Minister. This period became the turning point in the economic history of independent India. His role in ushering in a comprehensive policy of economic reforms is recognized all around the world.

Singh has won many awards and honors for his distinguished career in public office.

He has been a member of India's Upper House of Parliament since 1991, where he was leader of the Opposition between 1998 and 2004.

In 2004, Manmohan Singh became Prime Minister of India.
