France is pushing for continued negotiations to tighten international sanctions against Iran saying its concerns about Tehran's nuclear program have not been allayed by new US intelligence.

Iran's ambassador to France, Dr Ali Ahani, says toughening sanctions will have a negative impact on Iran's cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency.

He says France's position has become more pro-American since Sarkozy's election. But France's continued firm stance comes despite US intelligence made public this week that Iran had a covert nuclear weapons program, but halted it in 2003.
