Yasser Arafat has not been forgotten by the Palestinians. Tens of thousands have taken to the streets to commemorate the third anniversary of his death.

Some ten thousand Palestinians marched through the streets of Gaza City on Sunday.

Most of them were supporters of Fatah, founded by Arafat. They defied a Hamas ban on Fatah supporters rallying. Arafat began the secular Fatah movement in the 1960s. He led the Palestinians fight against Israel before signing an interim peace deal in 1993.

Arafat failed to create a state in territory occupied by Israel in the 1967 Middle East war but many Palestinians still miss him.
