German foreign minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier has met with the Palestinian leadership in Ramallah as part of his visit to the Mideast region.
Steinmeier met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Foreign Minister Riad Malki, and chief negotiator Saeb Erekat. Both sides discussed issues ahead of an upcoming Mideast peace conference.

Steinmeier praised the Palestinians for progress they were making for the conference. The Palestinian side announced its prime minister Salam Fayyad will visit Berlin by the end of the month. The German foreign ministry announced in Berlin the country is providing one million euros to help feed refugee families in the Gaza Strip.
