Iran's Foreign Ministry says the country is in favor of continued negotiations with the US on the situation in Iraq to "contribute to the Iraqi people and government".

The Ministry's spokesman also downplayed criticism of his country's nuclear program. He said it is in accordance with IAEA principles and "based on talks and cooperation" with the UN's nuclear energy agency.

Mohammad Ali Hosseini, Spokesman of Iranian Foreign Minister, said, "We agree with the continuation of negotiation with the US to contribute to the Iraqi people and government. We have emphasized this earlier.

The Iraqi government is persistently following another round of such meetings. If the Americans submit us a formal request, the way they have done it on earlier occasions, we will consider it."

"The Islamic Republic of Iran has tried to defend its principal points on nuclear issue. Of course there are some disagreements between different countries and this is normal."
