US State Department Deputy Spokesman Tom Casey says a group of US experts has begun disabling the DPRK's nuclear facilities at Yongbyon, north of Pyongyang.

Casey says it's the first step towards the eventual denuclearization of the Korean peninsula. Disabling all of the existing nuclear facilities at Yongbyon is expected to be finished by December 31st.

The DPRK shut down its sole functioning nuclear reactor at Yongbyon in July. It also agreed to disable all existing nuclear facilities and declare of all its nuclear programs by the end of the year.
