Agreement reached on DPRK nuclear issue

Delegates at a working group meeting of the six-party talks reached an agreement Tuesday with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to disable its nuclear facilities in exchange for energy assistance.

Representatives from China, the United States, the DPRK, South Korea, Russia and Japan held a two day meeting at the inter-Korean border village of Panmunjom.Under the agreement, the DPRK agreed to disable its nuclear facilities in exchange for energy assistance from other related parties. DPRK has received 50,000 tonnes of oil from South Korea.

The United States is preparing to deliver another 50,000 tonnes and Russia will likely be responsible for the next shipment of the same amount.
