Wen outlines ways to maintain China´s economic growth at "Summer Davos"

The first annual meeting of the "New Champions," known as the "Summer Davos," has opened in the northeastern Chinese city of Dalian.

As a platform to link multinational companies, it focusese on concerns such branding and financial governance. Premier Wen Jiabao addressed the opening ceremony and outlined ways to maintain China's economic growth.

For the first time, the Davos summer meeting takes a Chinese city as its venue.

At the opening ceremony, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao introduced the development of China's economy.

He says as a developing country, China faces many challenges and has a long way to go in its modernization.

To achieve sustained and long-term growth, Wen Jiabao suggests there be more effort in a number of areas, including transforming the development model and building an energy-efficient and environmentally friendly society.

Wen Jiabao said, "The Chinese economy has gone through nearly thirty years of fast development. Can this trend continue? My answer is yes. And we're confident. Despite whatever difficulties we may face in the future, we have the ability to overcome hardship and achieve modernization. The prospects for the Chinese economy are bright. "

The Premier says China's development and the world's economy are closely linked. He reiterated China's commitment to peaceful development. He says the Chinese government will continue to contribute to world peace and prosperity.

On the sidelines of the Davos meeting, the Premier held talks with leaders from Finland, Singapore, Jordan and a number of other countries. They talked about bilateral issues of common concern and also ways to expand trade.

About 1,500 participants are attending the two-day meeting. They include government officials, scholars and business leaders from over 80 countries and regions.
