China, Sri Lanka strengthen ties

China's top legislator Wu Bangguo and Premier Wen Jiabao have met Sri Lankan President, Mahinda Rajapakse in Beijing.

Wu Bangguo said relations between the two countries have developed smoothly since diplomatic ties were established 50 years ago. He said China's NPC will continue to promote cooperation with Sri Lanka's parliament.

Premier Wen Jiabao said the two nations should develop their friendship and boost cooperation. Wen Jiabao and Rajapakse agreed that they should encourage further joint development in agriculture, tourism, infrastructure, energy and resource exploitation.
