Special Report:   Iraq in Transition

U.S. President George W. Bush says he is open to suggestions on Iraq. This follows midterm elections that gave Democrats' control of both houses of Congress. However, the president ruled out the possibility of immediately withdrawing US troops from Iraq.

President Bush acknowledged the Democrats' victory is a sign Americans are frustrated by a lack of progress in Iraq. He said he is looking forward to working with the Democrats.

The incoming Congress is expected to exert more pressure on Bush for a course correction in Iraq, amid rising U.S. casualties and violence.

But Bush said the U.S. is responsible for supporting the over 150-thousand U.S. troops in Iraq an indirect challenge to Democrats who had talked about cutting off funding.
