Before leaving for Ethiopia, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao ended a two-day official visit to Mexico Saturday afternoon. He had breakfast with Mexican Secretary of Economy Fernando Canales and local business leaders. The premier told them partnership is the key to future Sino-Mexican relations.
In his address to the breakfast, Wen Jiabao stressed the importance of enhancing cooperative partnership between China, Mexico's major trading partner in Asia, and Mexico, China's second largest trading partner in Latin America.
Acknowledging Mexico's trade deficit with China, Wen Jiabao expressed China's willingness to work with Mexico to narrow the deficit. He said China is willing to increase imports from Mexico, and hopes that Mexico can facilitate Chinese products' entry into the Mexican market.
Wen Jiabao pointed out that the two countries are partners rather than competitors, noting that stronger cooperation will boost the growth of both economies, which are complementary in markets and resources.
He said cooperation is possible in various fields for mutual benefit and a win-win outcome. These include mining, petrochemicals, agriculture and fisheries.
Earlier, Wen Jiabao met with President Vicente Fox and leaders of the Mexican Senate. Wen Jiabao and Fox agreed to form a commission to increase cooperation. They also agreed to work together to fight illegal imports.
