Special Report: Strong Quake Hits Haiti |
Crowds of Haitians are gathering outside banks in Port-au-Prince in the hope of withdrawing some of their money.
Thousands of people have been unable to access their savings since the quake. The country's central bank reopened earlier this week, but private bank branches are still closed. Customers are able to withdraw the equivalent of up to 25-hundred US dollars. But many say this is still not enough.
Meanwhile, signs of normalcy are returning to the streets. Businesses are reopening and markets are being set-up along the streets.
Haiti's government is now working with world agencies to begin restoring essential services, although it could be three or four months before electricity supplies are fully restored in the capital.
