Special Report: Failed Christmas day attack |

The White House says the Nigerian accused of trying to bring down a trans-Atlantic plane provided useful intelligence to FBI interrogators. The administration is on the defensive after intelligence failures allowed the man with alleged links to Yemen-based al Qaeda operatives, to board the flight Christmas Day.

Robert Gibbs, White House Spokesperson, said, "Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab spent a number of hours with FBI interrogators in which we gleaned usable, actionable intelligence. I don't want to get into all the specifics but I think FBI investigators believe they got useful information from this terrorist and I don't see, despite what you hear otherwise, I don't see, I honestly don't see the point that is being made who you look at past decisions that were made by other administrations."
