Probes into an attempted bombing on a trans-Atlantic flight are underway in both the United States and Britain.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation says the suspect in the incident on a Delta Airlines plane is a Nigerian citizen unaffiliated with terrorist organizations.

Meanwhile, British police are seeking relevant clues in London.

FBI officials have identified the suspect as 23-year-old Abdul Mutallab. He claimed to be acting on orders from Al Qaida but, after rounds of interrogation, it was discerned that he is not a member of any known terror groups.

On the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, University College London says a student with the same name as the suspect studied mechanical engineering there between September 2005 and June 2008.
