Security tightened at Italian airports

Security has been tightened at Rome's Fiumicino airport after a suspicious package with a detonator was found at Malpensa airport in Milan Tuesday.

Italy's civil aviation authorities, have already ordered airports to tighten security for passengers leaving for the United States.

The measures include, more thorough body and baggage searches. But alert levels at Italian airports has not been raised further, after the package that was discovered at Malpensa airport.

A security chief for airports in central and southern Italy, says it will be up to individual airlines to increase check-in procedures.
