Draft calls for 50% emission cuts by 2050

In Copenhagen, where a draft text at the UN climate talks has called on wealthy nations to drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the next decade. It also urged the world as a whole to cut emissions in half by 2050.

The draft focused on the main elements of a global pact that 192 nations have been negotiating for two years. It said all countries together should reduce emissions by 50 to 95 percent by 2050. It called on rich countries to cut emissions by 25 to 40 percent by 2020.

China reaffirmed it has different responsibilities to the US in dealing with global warming.
