An Afghan policeman opened fire on British soldiers in the southern province of Helmand, killing 5 people.

6 other British soldiers and 2 Afghan policemen were wounded in the attack.

Authorities have been searching the attacker. The man had been working as a police officer in the area for three years, and passed through a police academy in Kandahar.

NATO says the attacker's motives are unclear and the incident is still under investigation.

It raises concerns about discipline within the Afghan forces and possible infiltration by insurgents.
