The Russian Prime Minister has been in China for three days on his first official visit since taking office in May, 2008. During an interview with Chinese media, prime minister Vladimir Putin said Moscow has always viewed cooperation with China as very importance.

Tuesday's interview at the Russian Embassy in Beijing began with the prime minister congratulating his hosts on the 60th anniversary of the founding of New China.

Vladimir Putin, Russian Prime Minister, said, "The Chinese nation is a great nation, and China is a great country. I use "great" here to refer to the nation's long history and its splendid culture. The founding of the People's Republic 60 years ago was definitely a great event. Here on behalf of Russian people, I would like to congratulate China, and may every Chinese family enjoy a peaceful and happy life."

Putin said as permanent members of the UN Security Council, Russia and China contribute greatly to world peace and development. The two countries' cooperation is one of the most important cornerstones of world stability.

Vladimir Putin, Russian Prime Minister, said, "Both Russia and China adhere to peaceful foreign policy. And neither of them drift into overseas war or station overseas troops. Our coordination on major international issues helps some impulsive countries keep calm."
