Ballot boxes from the recent presidential elections in Afghanistan have arrived in Kabul for a UN-led recount.

With the agreement of all parties, election officials have chosen 313 boxes for recounting and auditing from four southern provinces.

The recount follows allegations of widespread fraud in the August vote.

If enough ballots are found to be fraudulent, President Hamid Karzai could dip below the 50 percent threshold needed to avoid a runoff against his chief opponent Abdullah Abdullah.
