Makeshift hospitals established across Haiti

2010-01-21 14:41 BJT

Makeshift hospitals are popping up across Haiti as international organizations attempt to relieve the burden on hospitals.

Hundreds of thousands of people were injured in the quake, and many are dying waiting for treatment.

In the Dominican border town of Jimani, this hospital is now packed with injured Haitians most with broken bones.

Many injuries have been aggravated without timely treatment. But reaching the hospital doesn't mean the pain is over.

Gene Steinhaver, Volunteer, Border Hospital, said, "We've had to set fractures without morphine and women are screaming in the rooms because it hurts so bad but we have no choice."
