Haiti rescuers battle against time

Hungry, haggard survivors clamor for food and water in Haiti, as donors squabble over how to get aid to the country. Meanwhile, rescuers are waging an increasingly improbable battle to free those still trapped.

The shattered nation's government is now being administered from a dilapidated police station in Port-au-Prince.

Haiti's government alone has already recovered 20 thousand bodies. This does not include those recovered by independent agencies or relatives themselves.

Jean-Max Bellerive, Haitian Prime Minister, said, "Unfortunately there are 100 thousand dead that is probably a minimum estimate."

France's State Cooperation Minister said two French planes, one carrying a field hospital, were denied permission by the US Army to land.

Haitian President Rene Preval urged donors to avoid arguments.
