Also in Afghanistan is US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Her first visit as America's top diplomat comes on the eve of President Hamid Karzai's inauguration.
Clinton's visit also comes as President Barack Obama's administration is weighing several options for boosting US troop levels in the country. These options might be unveiled next week. They include sending up to 40,000 more soldiers to the war-torn country. But an ABC/Washington Post poll shows that more than half of Americans do not believe the war in Afghanistan worth the cost.
