Special Report: US Army Base Deadly Shooting |

So far there has been little clue to the reasons behind Hasan's shootings on Thursday.

His family describes a man incapable of the attack, saying he's a peaceful person, devoted doctor and devout Muslim.

Others recall a quiet and pleasant neighbor. But some who know Hasan say there are clear signs the Army psychiatrist has no place in the military, mainly because of his religious belief.

One of Hasan's cousins says Hasan once said as a Muslim he's been discriminated against and not treated properly as an officer and American.

There's also a picture of a man who is forcefully opposed to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Some say he has been trying to get out of his pending deployment to Iraq or Afghanistan, and struggling professionally in his work as an Army psychiatrist.
