Special Report: US Army Base Deadly Shooting |

The names of 13 people killed when an Army psychiatrist allegedly opened fire on fellow soldiers at the Fort Hood base in Texas, have been announced.

The list includes a pregnant woman who was preparing to return home, a man who quit a furniture company job to join the military, and a woman who had vowed to take on Osama bin Laden after the September 11th attacks. Among others, the eldest was 55 and the youngest was only 19.

The list of the deceased was released Saturday afternoon.

Fort Hood base spokesman Colonel John Rossi read out the names, hailing the victims as heroes. He said a grateful nation salutes "their patriotism, their service, and their memory."

Rossi also called for a moment of silence.

Colonel John Rossi, Fort Hood base spokesman, said, "These heroes are so much more than simply names, and I'd ask that we all take a moment to remember them all."

As the investigation continues, some details have already been unveiled. The gunfire broke out around 1:30 pm local time on Friday at the Soldier Readiness Center, where soldiers who are about to be deployed or who are returning undergo medical screening. Since they were not armed, they were defenseless against the barrage of hundreds of bullets that Hasan fired.

The bloody scene reminded the soldiers of the violence in Iraq.

"When we are in Iraq..."

The investigation has also shown that police officer Kimberly Munley arrived at the scene within 3 minutes. She exchanged fire with the shooter and helped save many lives. Munley was wounded and is now in stable condition.

23 of the 30 injured are still hospitalized. About half of them are seriously wounded. The shooter, Nadal Hasan, remains in a coma.
