Ministry of Health: Few A/H1N1 deaths pregnant women

The Ministry of Health has reported 326 deaths from A/H1N1 flu as of Monday, with less than 14% of that figure being pregnant women.

The figures show that although pregnant women are in a high risk category for infection, they do not make up the majority of fatalities. But experts are still urging timely measures to protect already infected pregnant women from suffering severe symptoms. Prominent disease control expert Zhong Nanshan said pregnant women showing flu like symptoms should receive Tami-flu as soon as possible.

For those suffering severe conditions, it is too late to be treated with Tami-flu and their embryo would also be under threat. Meanwhile, statistics show people with chronic diseases are more likely to suffer life-threatening conditions once infected. Experts urge early use of Tami-flu to prevent the disease from worsening.
