China expects realistic action of developed countries to address climate change

As the UN climate talks in Copenhagen draw near, China's top climate envoy Xie Zhenhua hopes realistic action will be taken by developed countries to address global climate change.

Xie says developed nations have set goals that are too small to tackle global warming and is urging them to help poorer countries deal with the problem. So far, developed countries say they will offer a 16 to 23-percent reduction target for greenhouse gas emissions, compared with 1990 levels, far below the 25 to 40-percent from 1990 levels scientists say are needed.

Xie Zhenhua, Vice Minister of National Development and Reform Commission said "So far we have not seen concrete actions and substantive commitments by the developed countries. We hope prior to or during the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference, developed countries will take realistic action in providing developing countries with financing and technology."
