The world first low carbon fair is taking place in Nanchang, capital of east China's Jiangxi Province. The event was originally slated to last for five days. Due to high public attendance, however, organizers decided to add two more days. It will now close on Monday.

The fair gained popularity because it demonstrates daily use products which can save energy, such as new model light bulbs. They consume less power, and have longer life spans. Most energy saving products at the fair have one thing in common -- they are made in China, but sold overseas. Exhibitors say one reason is because new technology products bear higher costs and, thus, are expensive compared with traditional products.

In an economy that is very cost conscious, such items are less competitive. Another reason is that low carbon is a new concept to most Chinese customers. They need time to get used to the idea, and become willing to pay for the extra margin.
