China and Mauritius are marking 45 years since establishing diplomatic relations. The Chinese embassy in the capital Port Louis recently organised a symposium on enhancing relations between the two countries.

Mauritius' Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth attended the event along with several other high level officials. Topics at the symposium included the past and future of China-Mauritius relations. The Belt and Road initiative was also discussed, and how it can play a major role in an economic corridor in the Indian Ocean between Africa and Asia.

Prime Minister Jugnauth addressed the symposium, and spoke about strengthening relations and the benefits of the Belt and Road initiative.

"The Mauritius government responds actively to the One Belt One Road initiative. And the purpose of organizing this symposium is to promote and find more support for the One Belt One Road initiative in Mauritius. And just now his excellency Mr. Jugnauth praised this initiative highly in his speech, and this indicates again Mauritius' willingness to be a part of this initiative and benefit from it," Chinese ambassador to Mauritius Li Li said.
