United States Vice President Mike Pence has arrived in Japan for the second leg of his four-nation Asia tour. Pence has met with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. Pence has reportedly said 'all options are on the table' in terms of dealing with the DPRK, but that President Donald Trump was determined to work with Japan, China and South Korea to find a peaceful solution.

Abe also called for a peaceful resolution to escalating tensions surrounding the DPRK. Before arriving in Japan, Pence visited South Korea. The visit comes after the DPRK test-fired a ballistic missile, which exploded soon after lift-off, with speculation of another possible nuclear test. With escalated tensions on the Korean Peninsula, the vice president signaled that the Trump administration will not tolerate a nuclear DPRK. And he also reaffirmed his country's alliance with South Korea.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Monday that Moscow cannot accept the DPRK's "reckless nuclear actions". Lavrov added that he hopes the United States will not take any unilateral action against Pyongyang.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday made a new appeal calling for calm on the Korean peninsula.

"I can see that the US is also emphasizing and reaffirming their willingness for a political and diplomatic solution. They agree it's their first choice. Of course they have said all the choices are on the table. I believe all countries will agree that the political and diplomatic solution is the first choice," Wang said.
