Circuit courts are arms of the Supreme People's Court. Six have been set up across China to help local communities file cases, and are seen as a way to increase judicial independence. The case of Nie Shubin, who was wrongly executed 22 years ago for rape and murder, was eventually cleared through one such circuit court.
