Besides transforming its traditional industries, China is also set to power up its consumption to drive the country's new economy. Premier Li said on Sunday that healthy domestic consumption would act as the catalyst for healthy economic growth and that a robust new economy will lead traditional sectors to shift gears and move forward in the right way.
This year's government work report says China will give more incentives and autonomy to scientific researchers, and will also tighten and improve the country's intellectual property regulations.
The report also revealed that emerging sectors such as new materials, artificial intelligence, bio-pharmaceuticals and 5G communications technology would be given the most support.
Traditional sectors would also see profound changes, with the implementation of big data, cloud computing and the internet of things.
