At a regular press briefing, the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office reiterated the importance of the 1992 Consensus in cross-strait relations. This press conference is the first after China formally re-established diplomatic ties with Sao Tome and Principe.
"We stand firm on the One-China policy and against Taiwan independence. The 1992 consensus is the cornerstone of the peaceful development of cross-strait relations," said An Fengshan, spokesperson, State Council Taiwan Affairs Office.
"If authorities in Taiwan really have the goodwill and sincerity to improve cross-strait ties, they should clearly and unequivocally return to the common political basis of upholding the 1992 consensus. Only then can the two sides continue interaction, and cross-strait relations can improve and develop."
