In South Korea, a special prosecutor has summoned Choi Soon-sil for further questioning. Authorities on Saturday escorted Choi to the prosecutor's office in southern Seoul.
Choi and President Park Geun-hye are longtime friends, and investigators are looking into that closeness and the possible inappropriate influence it had on the country's governance. Also summoned were Kim Jong -- the former vice minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism -- and other related witnesses.
The move comes as crowds gathered near the Blue House, calling for the president's permanent removal. The special prosecutor has up to 100 days to complete his investigation.
