Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte says his country may repeal an agreement with the US for troop deployments and joint military exercises.
"We can survive without American money, but you know America you might also be put to notice. Prepare to leave the Philippines. Prepare for the eventual repeal for the abrogation of the Visiting Forces Agreement," Duterte said.
The Visiting Forces Agreement of 1998 allowed thousands of US troops to be rotated in the Philippines for military exercises and humanitarian assistance operations. Duterte says his decision will come "any day soon" after reviewing another military deal, the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement.
