"We know from history that a political solution to this conflict fits the interests of all sides and is the only way out. The most fundamental thing at the moment is to continue with peace talks. This is also the way to reverse the current deadlock in the political process. Only through negotiation can we find a final solution that takes into account all concerns and interests," Xie said.
Xie made the remarks during a press conference in Damascas. He said China insists on a Syria-led political solution to the conflict under the UN framework which would include a ceasefire, political negotiation, humanitarian aid and a joint anti-terrorism campaign. Xie added that China is against external interference on the issue, politicizing humanitarian aid and double-standards on the anti-terrorism campaign. He said that China's efforts to bring all sides back to the negotiation table won't stop.
"China is willing to continue to communicate and negotiate with members of the Security Council and the international community on issues concerning the Syria conflict, and will keep contributing to find a proper solution," Xie said.
