South Korea's embattled President Park Geun-hye is holding a cabinet meeting after the National Assembly voted to impeach her this afternoon.

All 299 National Assembly members joined the vote and 234 lawmakers cast ballots in favor of impeaching Park.

There have been mass rallies every Saturday for the past six weeks calling for the president to resign and opinion polls show overwhelming public support for her impeachment.

The Constitutional Court of Korea will decide if the impeachment will be carried out or not within 180 days.
