The legacy of Fidel Castro has always been felt far beyond the island of Cuba.

Ecuadoreans gathered in capital Quito for a tribute concert, and signed a book of condolences at the Cuban embassy.

The concert took place outside the original House of Ecuadorean Culture, where Castro once visited. Raul Perez Torres, the house's president, said Castro's most important legacies is honesty in his revolutionary behaviour and the need to bring together the countries of Americas, just as Jose Marti and Simon Bolivar once dreamed of.
