Iraq's Ministry of Defense says its fighter jets damaged the headquarters of Islamic State, west of Mosul on Sunday. Iraqi forces continue to battle the militants deep in eastern Mosul, edging deeper towards the Tigris river that divides the city.
Government troops have recaptured several eastern neighbourhoods of the city since October 17th despite fierce resistance. They were last week reported to be in control of 40 percent of eastern Mosul. Iraqi forces are also within striking distance of the city on northern and southern fronts, but progress has stalled in recent days.
